Babu Medi, BPharm, PhD
Babu is an experienced pharmaceutical scientist with more than 19 years of biotech and pharmaceutical development experience for multiple modalities, including monoclonal antibodies, recombinant protein vaccines, live viral vaccines, and cell and gene therapies. He is well recognized in the drug product development area with several publications and patent applications. Babu is passionate and excited to be involved in developing novel cell and gene therapies to address unmet medical needs and improving accessibility for patients. Prior to joining Interius, he was head of formulation and drug product development at Allogene Therapeutics, where he played critical roles in the advancement of multiple allogeneic chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy programs from bench to clinic, tech transfer for drug product manufacturing, 5 IND filings and pivotal process development, and process characterization for the lead program. Previously, Babu spent 10 years in the vaccine drug product development group at Merck & Co., where he led formulation and drug product process development for multiple novel vaccine candidates, including liquid, lyophilized, and adjuvanted formulations. He also led development teams, tech transfer, and clinical drug product manufacturing campaigns for early-stage to late-stage development. Prior to Merck, Babu worked on novel formulations and delivery systems for vaccines and biologics at DelSite Biotechnologies.
Babu received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Andhra University, India, and PhD in pharmaceutical sciences from North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. He is also a registered pharmacist in the states of Texas and Pennsylvania.
