Interius BioTherapeutics Hosts Immersive, Hands-on Event to Ignite Students’ Passion for Science

Philadelphia, PA – April 27, 2023 – Interius BioTherapeutics, a preclinical stage gene therapy company developing novel methods for in vivo cell-specific gene delivery, today announced it launched a new initiative to cultivate the next generation of scientists in Greater Philadelphia. Since its origination, Interius’ team of leading experts have been committed to mentoring students and young scientists to support STEM education and careers.

Research has shown that exposure to occupations of family members in the STEM field may influence students’ expectations and intentions for future jobs. In an effort to provide awareness and early access to STEM careers to students, Interius will be taking part in the worldwide “Take Your Child to Work Day” initiative. On April 27, Interius will host local students from ages 6 to 14 at its Philadelphia-based facility to learn more about working in the biotechnology space. Students will participate in hands-on experiments in the laboratory led by Interius Master’s and PhD-level scientists with chemistry reactions and microscopy, exploring ionic interactions, polymer properties and cell biology. Interius has also planned various meetings and activities to guide the students through the day, including a discussion on laboratory safety and etiquette with Taylor Phillips, MS, Head of Lab Operations, a meeting with Phil Johnson, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, about working within the science field, and tours of Interius’ analytical development laboratory and high throughput automation facility.

“Educating and supporting the next generation of scientists is at the core of our culture here at Interius,” said Dr. Johnson. “We are thrilled to host those that mean the most to our staff – their children. We love what we do each day, working towards life-changing scientific breakthroughs, and hope that, by giving these kids a glimpse into our passion, we’ll encourage their natural curiosity and empower them to imagine themselves donning a lab coat someday.”

In the past year, Interius has hired numerous young research assistants and research associates with the commitment to train and develop their skills and knowledge in the biotech space. Additionally, Interius’ team has supported the Philadelphia Science Olympiad since the company’s inception. This commitment has had a direct impact on purchasing science supplies for a number of local Philadelphia schools – all to cultivate an interest in STEM.
